    Optimist Team


    The Optimist Team class is for novice to intermediate level Optimist Sailors ages 7 -15. This class refines and builds upon basic rigging and sailing skills which are important for the competitive sailor.   

    The Coaches will also focus on teaching racing tactics, Rules, body placements, speed development and pushing the more experienced sailors to elevate their skills.

    Sailors should have previously taken the Opti Beginner course or be able to demonstrate an equivalent experience level. Sailors should be able to handle the Opti on their own safely, capsize & recover, be able to rig, launch, tack/jibe, and sail upwind. Sailors additionally should be able to demonstrate adequate swimming ability in swimming short distances and treading water while wearing a PFD.

    This course runs 3 times a week for 7 weeks.

    Schedule:

    September 2nd - October 18th

    Tuesday: 4:00pm - 6:30pm

    Thursday: 4:00pm - 6:30pm

    Saturday: 9:00am - 12:00pm

    Fee: SCYC Member : $400.00 

    *Other option available when registering


    October 10th and 11th:  NO CLASS

    - Classes MAYBE Cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances and reschedules (if possible)

    Equipment:


    -PFDs (lifejackets) are required, sailors who do not have their own may borrow a PFD from the Sailing Program.

    -Sun protective clothing & sunscreen are strongly recommended

    -A refillable water bottle (there is a water fill station in the club for refills).


    Other optional equipment:

    -Hat, sunglasses, water shoes, sailing gloves.

    This class is recommended for ages 8 and older. (exceptions are made for sailing experience)

    Youth Sailing Team

    Z420: New Ride, New Style | 420 sailboat, Boat, SailingILCA Dinghy — Severn Sailing Association

    The 420 is the double-handed boat and ILCA is a Single-Handed boat, that both form the base of many local, high school and collegiate programs in North America. Simple and safe for beginning sailors and yet challenging enough for collegiate champions. This Team is for youth sailor's 7th grade and up, including The Good Hope Country Day School (GHCDS) Sailing Team.  There will be two (2) Fall Sessions for this Team, this 1st Fall session, the Team will meet twice weekly for 7 weeks. 

    *Sailors must weigh at least 100 pounds to safely sail in the 420 class

    No sailing experience necessary, we will train you! 

    Schedule:

    September 4th - October 18th

    Thursdays 4:00pm - 6:30pm ish (Dusk)
    Saturdays 9:00am - 12:00pm

    *Some Classes maybe cancelled/rescheduled due to other events

    Oct. 11th - NO CLASS 

    SCYC Member: $295.00

    Any sailor over the Age 12 can Join the St. Croix Yacht Club as a Jr. Member 

    A Family can Join the St. Croix Yacht Club, and take advantage of a discounted Initiation Fee by joining any St. Croix Yacht Club Fall Program.

    Sea Squirts

     


    This class is for the youngest sailors ages 5-7 yrs. Participants learn the basics of sailing and are accompanied by an instructor who may sail with them or ride on the back of the boat while they learn. Class takes place right along the yacht club beach and near-shore waters of Teague Bay. Sailors may take the Sea Squirts class multiple times as they improve their confidence and basic water skills.

    Schedule

    Fridays:  4:00pm - 6:30pm

    Saturdays: 1:00pm - 4:00pm

    no sailing experience necessary

    Equipment:

    SCYC Race Team

    The St. Croix Yacht Club Race Team will be for St. Croix Yacht Club Sailors over the age of 15.  If you are 14 year old, 120lbs and taller than 5ft you are welcomed as well.  This team will focus on various boats from, ISCA, ILCA, Club 420's, Rhodes 19 and even larger Keelboats.

    All sailors will be encouraged to sail every position of each boat, and the team will focus on certain class boats for which upcoming important Regattas

    -Jr. Sailors must weigh at least 100 pounds and over 5 ft tall to safely sail in the Club 420 class and Rhodes 19

    To be a Crew, No, sailing experience necessary, we will train you! 

    If interested in Skippering, you should know how to sail.
