Optimist Team

AGES 7 - 15

The Optimist Team class is for novice to intermediate level Optimist Sailors ages 7 -15. This class refines and builds upon basic rigging and sailing skills which are important for the competitive sailor.

The Coaches will also focus on teaching racing tactics, Rules, body placements, speed development and pushing the more experienced sailors to elevate their skills.

Sailors should have previously taken the Opti Beginner course or be able to demonstrate an equivalent experience level. Sailors should be able to handle the Opti on their own safely, capsize & recover, be able to rig, launch, tack/jibe, and sail upwind. Sailors additionally should be able to demonstrate adequate swimming ability in swimming short distances and treading water while wearing a PFD.

If you are uncertain if your sailor meets the prerequisites for the Opti Team please reach out to Waterfront@StCroixYC.com
