SUNFISH RACING TRAINING

The focus will be on the art of racing a Sunfish.  With special appearances throughout the training from SCYC very own Peter Stanton, who is currently ranked 4th in the Worlds in Sunfish, as well Scott Stanton Former All-American Sailor, and Alejandro Berrios former Sunfish North American Champion.

If you are interested in competing in the Central American and Caribbean Games or the Pan Am Games in 2023, this will help prepare you for the qualifiers.

This is not a learn to Sail program.

Requirements:

14 years old +

Has Experience Racing - This is not a learn to race program but will definitely improve your racing skills, rules, rigging, tuning and fitness.

Schedule:  Primarily on Sunday's with the possibility to switch Days or add days depending on availability of sailors/coaches.  Time is typically about 2 PM on Sundays but you must practice on your own as well to improve.

What to Expect:

-TEAM WORK - Ex: figuring a good schedule or going the extra mile and setting up extra sailing session amongst each other.

Chalk talks - Starts/Fleet management/Rules/Sail Trim

-Boat prep lessons

-How to properly rig the Sunfish for racing 

-Drills, Drills Drills!

-Self Study/ homework

-Joining a Group Chat to keep everyone on the same page.

-Participants maybe grouped to skill level and sailed on different days due to the limited quality boat available.






MISSION STATEMENT

The Club is formed for the express purpose of promoting interest and activity in the ownership, racing and cruising of yachts and small boats; of providing a meeting place for members whose common interest lies in ships and the sea; of augmenting the recreational facilities and visitor attractions of the island; of exchange and courtesies with other yacht clubs of the United States and Caribbean islands, and of extending to visiting yachtsmen the hospitality of St. Croix.
