2008 SUMMER JUNIOR SAILING PROGRAM

Introductory, Intermediate, Advanced and Racing classes will be held at the St. Croix Yacht Club for youths ages 8 to 18. There will be no exceptions to the age requirements. Classes will begin at 0900 ( 9AM ) and end at 1500 ( 3PM ) hours Monday through Friday. All Classes will be taught by U.S. Sailing Certified Instructors.

Student requirements are:

  • Able to swim 50 yards and pass a swim test.
  • Provide a U.S. Coast Guard approved Type III Personal Flotation Device (PFD) with a plastic whistle attached.
  • Students taking Club 420 courses must weigh at least 90 pounds and be 4 feet tall or higher. Exceptions to weight and height requirements may be made with the approval of the Program Manager and the Instructor of the Club 420 class.
  • Sailing gloves and water shoes are recommended for all courses, and are mandatory for the Club 420 course.
  • This program is a graduating program. We recommend that each sailor go through beginner, intermediate and advance , for each class of boat. Every child is different and our instructors will assess your child's skill and comfort with the level at which he/she is sailing. Promotion to a higher level is not automatic but based on the mastering of certain skills at each level. At minimal:

-Sunfish students must have completed the Optimist Pram Introductory course or an equivalent level course.

-Club 420 students must have completed the Optimist Pram and Sunfish Introductory courses or an equivalent level course.

Course fee $300.00

U.S. Sailing Members Course Fee $250.00 (Copy of ID card is required with application.)

Refundable Damage Deposit of $50.00 (please submit as a separate check)

A $100.00 non-refundable deposit is required to hold a place in a particular course. This deposit is deducted from course fee. The remainder of the tuition is due on the first day the course begins as is the damage deposit.

Tuition fee includes: a. Textbook b. Certificate of Completion c. Log Book

Scholarships: A limited number of scholarships are available to student(s) in need of financial assistance. If you would like to be considered for a scholarship, please fill out scholarship application.

Registration will be accepted on a first come first serve basis with a $100.00 deposit for each session. Spaces are limited. Sign up as soon as possible.
